The exciting new event series – which is free and open to the public – aims to demystify, analyse and discuss complex intersections of digital art and media.
Berlin collective CO:QUO is continuing on from their hugely successful workshop on using NFTs as a tool in the music industry with their second live event, 'Digital Skin: Avatars and Pop Stars'. Taking place tomorrow (June 23) at 5pm Irish time, the talk is part of a wider series, under the 'Music Futures & Simulacra' umbrella. 'Digital Skin' is set to focus on the "legacy and presence of avatars in music and artist expression, and the freedoms they can and continue to provide music communities."
"Avatars have long been used as a means of expression, from chat room display pictures to modular RPG characters," the collective say about the workshop. "In the face of a global pandemic this expression has expanded, crossing borders and creating shared space which have otherwise been severely restricted. How can these freedoms propose new support structures and economic models for a music industry in disrepair?
"Approaching this question from an interdisciplinary perspective, this discussion seeks to understand the scope of avatar technology as both art form and interstitial tool supporting expression and sustenance," they continue. Panellists on the evening include artists Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley and Stacie Ant, musician Klypi, and co-founder and CEO of Brud, Trevor McFedries.
A Discord discussion room will close out the series on June 30 at 5pm Irish time, with New Models, where participants will be encouraged to join discussions on the future of Web 3.0 and practical applications of emerging technologies.
