The Coronas have been confirmed for the latest in the Windmill Live series of gigs, organised by Hot Press. The free shows – tickets are available through hotpress.com – are part of a special initiative to celebrate the enduring musical legacy of the Windmill Lane location.

The Coronas – one of the finest Irish bands of the past fifteen years and more – are set to grace the stage on Thursday, April 2. The gig will take place in the Town Hall, One Windmill Lane, an iconic new structure at the heart of the Windmill Quarter.

The gig is part of the build-up to what promises to be an incredibly busy – and successful – year for The Coronas. They will be just back from an Australian tour when they arrive in Windmill – and afterwards jet off to the US for a series of shows there.

They will doubtless be in super-fine fettle when they return to Ireland for the launch of their highly anticipated album, True Love Waits – the main production duties are handled by acclaimed engineer and producer George Murphy (Ellie Goulding, The Specials, Mumford & Sons), along with Rob Kirwan (Hozier, PJ Harvey) and Cormac Butler (Academic, All Tvvins) – on Friday, May 29.

That night, the band play Live At The Marquee in Cork – the first in a series of high-profile festival gigs over the summer. That is followed by a headlining appearance at the Saltwater Festival, Westport (Saturday May 30).

Four weeks later, they headline Fever Pitch Music Festival in Galway (Saturday June 27). And then comes the big one.

Uniquely, The Coronas are set to curate their own festival in 2020, the impressively titled Nowhere We’d Rather Be. They will headline both nights, in the beautiful environs of Kilruddery House & Gardens, Bray, on July 31 and August 1. Among the other acts lined up for the Kilruderry House bash are Tom Walker, Lyra, True Tides and Somebody's Child (Friday); and Hudson Taylor, Gabrielle Aplin, Aimée and Thanks Brother (Saturday).

• Hothouse Flowers (with special guest Moya Brennan), Gavin James and Lisa Hannigan have previously headlined shows in this series of free, intimate concerts, curated by Hot Press – with Erica Cody, Saarloos and John Smith among the support acts. The gigs have proven to be very special indeed.

As everyone with an interest in rock ’n’ roll will know, Windmill Lane has a fascinating place in Irish musical history.

The original Windmill Lane Studio building was opened in 1978. Windmill Lane Recording Studios is widely regarded as being central to the development of an internationally successful music culture in Ireland. The place where U2’s crucial first three albums – Boy, October and War – were recorded in full, the recording studio located in Windmill Lane became synonymous with top Irish artists. It was also the recording location for albums by a string of international best-selling artists, including Clannad, Van Morrison, The Waterboys, Def Leppard, Howard Jones and Kate Bush, among many more.

Later, Windmill Lane Recording Studios moved to a new location, in a famous Art Deco building on Ringsend Road, where it remains at the heart of the industry in Ireland. Windmill Lane Recording Studios continues to attract major international and Irish recording artists, including the likes of Kylie Minogue, Hozier, Ed Sheeran, The Script, Lady Gaga, Kodaline and U2.
