Crimes and Punishments: Sherlock Holmes - Tech Review
No shit, Sherlock
Those Victorians were a dodgy lot. All murder and deviancy behind their stiff upper lip. No better person to dig beneath the corruption than Sherlock Holmes, the eccentric sleuth, and his weathered pal Watson.
Players explore scenes and examine clues in lavishly designed environments. Once the clues are in the bag, link pieces of information together in deduction tests. While interrogating a suspect you can inspect their clothes and demeanour for additional clues. The storytelling is a far cry from Telltale’s The Walking Dead, or classic puzzler Broken Sword. Players are almost led by the hand through investigations. There are holes in the narrative too. A day after investigating a crime scene, you return to discover the body still pinned to a wall. Maybe undertakers were just lazy in the 19th century. At least the depiction of Holmes, as a manipulative nutter, is what his creator Arthur Conan Doyle would have wanted.
