“Ani had never shot or edited a video before.” says David Rooney, “She approached me saying she loved 'Letter to Myself’ and was starting her introduction course in moving images and would like to make the song her subject.
"I was delighted. A fire performance artist herself, Ani created an elaborate weave of figures and fire to create something really special. That’s quite an undertaking for one’s first video. I’m really thrilled with the result.”
Jazz saxophone legend Michael Buckley appears in the video.
“He will be surprised by how he turned out,” David laughs. "His arrangements and playing added so much to the song."
A fine, late blooming singer-songwriter, David Rooney is also one of Ireland's leading illustrators. His work is featured in every issue of Hot Press. He also worked on the BBC's five-episode The Story of Ireland (2011), which was narrated by Fergal Keane; and he illustrated the Royal Irish Academy's major work 1916 Portraits and Lives, which was published in 2016, to mark the centenary of the Easter Rising..
