Make haste, dear reader. You’ll never get a chance to see another movie like this one.
Somewhere in an unnamed suburb two twisted parents have raised three adult children to believe that the airplanes flying over are toys and that zombies are small yellow flowers. The “kids” have never been beyond the high fence that surrounds the family home and contact with the outside world begins and ends with the prostitute daddy brings home to service his eldest son.
Terrifying, demented and blackly hilarious, the term sui generis seems inadequate when it comes to Yorgos Lanthimos’ stupendously original film. The hands-down best cinematic offering of 2010 thus far simply cannot be missed for any number of reasons; Aggeliki Papoulia’s Flashdance routine may be the most unbridled, unselfish performance ever committed to celluloid; every single shot is stunningly beautiful and the denouement will have you so much on the edge of your seat, your bottom will likely hit the floor.
