A mugshot of Donald Trump- inmate n. P01135809, according to Fulton County Jail records- has been released following his stint at an Atlanta jail.

Trump swiftly moved to use the mug shot for fundraising purposes, posting it to X (Twitter), his first post on the site in over two-and-a-half years.

The photograph is now on his campaign website alongside appeals for donations, claiming he had been "arrested despite having committed no crime".

The former U.S president faces over a dozen charges which stem from his attempts to overturn his 2020 election defeat in the state of Georgia.

Mr Trump, who is still in the running to become president in 2024, made history as the first former US president to face criminal charges.

This occasion marked the first time he had to pose for a mugshot, as other authorities gave him a pass.

He spent approximately 20 minutes at the jail before returning to his New Jersey golf club.

Before boarding his private jet at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson airport, he said:  "What has taken place here is a travesty of justice. I did nothing wrong, and everybody knows it."
