Today, the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre is launching a new anonymous online platform where sexual violence survivors can share their stories. The anonymity of this initiative means those with stories to share can do so without fear of being targeted by online trolls or sued.
‘We-Speak’, is the first of its kind in Ireland, and will reduce the risk victims of sex attacks face when ti comes to sharing their experiences.
The launch of We-Speak comes alongside figures which show that just 53% of women and 34% of men who have been subjected to sexual violence, have told someone about it.
Consent Project manager at the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre, Sarah Monaghan, explained to the Irish Examiner how the platform will assist in empowering survivors.
“They can tell their story in their own words and in their own time, and wherever they want,” Ms Monaghan began.

“They will write in their story and reclaim their own narrative.”

“We hope also that by reading other stories that people will realise they are not alone,” the Consent Project manager continued.
A statement from We-Speak's websites reads: "We hope that these stories of struggle, strength, and healing can foster a community of support, solidarity, understanding and hope."
"We believe that stories are powerful and can build awareness, cultivate empathy, and ultimately create change. Every story matters."
