The Dublin Sci-Fi Film Festival just revealed that the opening film for for the festival will be Luc Besson’s piece The Fifth Element.
This 20th anniversary streaming is a remastered print of the movie starring Bruce Willis, Milla Jovovich, Gary Oldman, Chris Tucker and Ian Holm. In partnership with the Light House cinema, The Fifth Element will screen at the Smithfield venue on May 5 at 10pm.
The DSFFF will also bring two other classics to the Light House Cinema this year: Fred M. Wilcox’s Forbidden Planet (1956), starring Leslie Nielsen and Walter Pidgeon and a late night screening of the psychedelic cult movie Barbella (1968) starring Jane Foster.
On Saturday afternoon the Light House will feature the Mexican director Amat Escalante’s The Untamed, a surreal and thrilling sci-fi drama about a mysterious creature that delivers both, pleasure and pain.
In order to decide over the Best Feature, Best Short Sci-Fi and Best Short Fantasy nominations at this year's festival, the festival welcomes a Jury with members from across the country.

The feature jury includes award winning director Bob Gallagher, senior film programmer at Cork Film Festival Don O'Mahony and film journalist and founder of the website Scannain, Niall Murphy. The shorts jury consists of Luke Dunne, film journalist and founder of the website Film In Dublin, Eibh Collins, the short film programmer at Galway Film Fleadh, and filmmaker Conor Maloney of Cashmere Media.
