The brothers behind the instant Netflix hit have found themselves embroiled in a lawsuit.
The lawsuit stems from filmmaker Charlie Kessler, who alleges he pitched a rough concept for the story to the brothers, Matt and Ross, at a party in 2014 and in turn also showed them bulked out concepts, storylines, script and the short film visuals.
Kessler's plot revolves around a quiet town called Montauk in New York which holds an abandoned military base within the borders. The town also is the source of many urban and paranormal conspiracy theories.
The lawsuit filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court alleges that "After the massive success of Stranger Things that is based on Plaintiff's concepts that Plaintiffs discussed with Defendants, Defendants have made huge sums of money by producing the series based on Plaintiff's concepts without compensating or crediting Plaintiff for his Concepts."
He is suing for 'breach of implied contract' and seeking damages and an injunction that prevents the Duffer brothers from using any other concepts he states are his own.
