The deadline to submit applications closes on 10th May at 11:59 am.
Electric Picnic have today announced that applications for Trailer Park’s Caravan Competition are now open.
A mainstay of the festival, the Trailer Park comprises a haven of eccentric caravans and converted camper vans which offers a DIY metropolis of tiny theatres, interactive cultural outposts, fun-clinics and eclectic venues. Since 2014, over 200 creators have received grants to help bring their wildest ideas to life.
With 20 grants allocated, the festival now repeats the call for applications. Each grant ranges from €500 to €2,000, with the objective of helping artists and designers realise their ideas. The deadline to submit grant proposals is 10th May at 11:59 am.
The bursaries do not go towards the artist’s labour costs, but they cover the allocation of materials and skills. Organisers are looking for projects that stand on their own as installations, independent of performances or activities, although they may well accompany and complete the installation. They do not need to be roadworthy, but it would definitely help if they were. Safety is also a requirement.
The caravans must be interactive before anything else, and theatrical interactions are a priority. The caravans need to focus on the design of the exterior as well as the interior, and applicants should think about lighting as the area of Electric Picnic operates at night-time as well as daytime.

Examples of previous submissions include sound studios, redneck theatres, karaoke, hot tubs, seaweed baths, pantomimes, graffiti shops, Céilí sessions, nine-hole golf courses, quiz competitions and so much more.
“In Trailer Park we really do just set out to make people laugh, inspire and engage – with projects that marry creativity, participation and style,” says Trailer Park Artistic Director Roz Jellett. “This competition loves a good host, so if you have a gang of friends who like to make people around you have fun, simply think of how you might do that in the most unusual way, and either inside or in front of a room on wheels.”
