The Trainspotting star has made clear that his refusal to appear on Good Morning Britain is because of host Piers Morgan's comments about the women's marches taking place in protest of Donald Trump's Inauguration.
The stat was due to go on to talk about his starring role in Danny Boyle's film but then declined due to Morgan's tweet: "I'm planning a men's march to protest at the creeping global emasculation of my gender by rabid feminists. Who's with me?"
In response, McGregor tweeted this morning: "Was going on Good Morning Britain, didn't realise Piers Morgan was host. Won't go on with him after his comments about women's march."
Morgan's reply was: "Sorry to hear that. You should be big enough to allow people different political opinions. You're just an actor after all", following it later with the tweet: "A real man would have come on and debated it with me, not run away like a coward."
Morgan also said on-screen on the ITV show: "Sorry that's unprofessional. But you turn up. We are allowed to have different opinions in the world. Do we all just have to agree? Am I not allowed to express any dissent?
"What has (it) come to when actors are telling the world how they should think?"

Co-host Susanna Reid also agreed with the sentiment, writing on her Twitter page that it's "such a shame" that McGregor declined to appear on the show and that she would have "liked to see that debate on air".

Sorry to hear that @mcgregor_ewan - you should be big enough to allow people different political opinions. You're just an actor after all.
