The UK-based independent publishing house Faber and Faber Limited have recently announced the upcoming publication of 'Wrote For Luck: Selected Lyrics', an assortment of lyrics and accompanying commentary from the highly-acclaimed musician Shaun Ryder.
The book features lyrics from 30 of Ryder’s songs as well as an introduction by Luke Bainbridge, Ryder’s literary collaborator.
Wrote For Luck will likely be met with steep excitement. Since Ryder formed the rock band Happy Mondays in the mid-1980s, he has amassed more than a few fans. The Manchester native went on to produce two well-loved albums with the band, ‘Bummed’ in 1988 and later ‘Pills ‘n’ Thrills and Bellyaches’ in 1990. Both albums received high praise from critics and fans alike.
Several years later, Ryder emerged in the music scene with a new project — a rock group called Black Grape that seamlessly fused the sounds of funk with electronic rock. Together, Black Grape released the beloved album ‘It’s Great When You’re Straight… Yeah’.
In 2000, Ryder was the recipient of the NME Godlike Genius Award and has continued to tour and record with both Black Grape and Happy Mondays.
Wrote For Luck is the newest instalment in a collection of selected lyric books from Faber. It will find a place among that of artists such as Kate Bush, Van Morrison and Jarvis Cocker.
