SSE Airtricity, Ireland’s largest provider of green energy, is inviting families to Dublin Zoo for its first "Sustainability Weekend" at Ireland’s most popular family attraction, which takes place on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 of June from 12pm to 4pm.
The SSE Airtricity ‘Sustainability Weekend’ is all part of the company’s Sustainability Partnership with Dublin Zoo, announced earlier this year. The two-day programme will encourage youngsters to become ‘Eco Explorers’ and learn more about the importance of sustainability though fun and interactive tasks and activities.
The menu of free fun SSE Airtricity activities for Dublin Zoo visitors includes the chance to take part in a mini-worm excavation, the opportunity to learn how to build your very own ‘Bug Hotel’, and – to mark Global Wind Day – an arts and crafts workshop where you can create your own hand-made wind turbines!
There will also be a fun photo opportunity so young Eco Explorers can be ‘snapped’ in action, plus chances for all Eco Explorers to win exclusive prizes and merchandise. For younger guests, face painters will be on site to keep littlest Explorers entertained.
Visitors to the SSE Airtricity ‘Sustainability Weekend’ will be able to trek Dublin Zoo’s new Eco Explorer Trail, supported by SSE Airtricity’s interactive Eco Explorer app.
The digital app, which can be used on any tablet or smartphone, encourages mini explorers to enjoy their natural spaces and think positively about sustainability and play. It identifies nine Eco Explorer stations for parents and kids to discover as they explore Dublin Zoo, teaching children simple steps to becoming more sustainable such as making compost, recycling, and harvesting rain water.
To celebrate the first-ever ‘Sustainability Weekend’, SSE Airtricity customers can avail of a 15% discount off day passes to Dublin Zoo. SSE Airtricity customers can claim their exclusive Dublin Zoo discount through its online loyalty rewards platform, SSEReward.com.
Registered SSE Reward members also have the chance to win exclusive ‘money-can’t-buy-experiences’ at Dublin Zoo – such as seeing how the Asian elephants and Amur tigers start their day, and learning all about the animals from the dedicated zookeeper team.
