New music from the British punk-folk singer.
Frank Turner has two passions: music and history, as he recalls in a new promotional video. Both of them come together on his new album No Man's Land, set to be released on August 16, accompanied by a podcast series about the creation of the record. The first episode of the podcast, as well as the first single, 'Sister Rosetta', are out now.
On his new record, the folk singer tells the stories of 13 influential women who have been marginalised in the past because of their gender. The songs deal with women like the Egyptian feminist Huda Sha'arawi ('The Lioness'), the Byzantine princess Kassiani ('The Hymn of Kassiani') or the drowned virgin Resusci Anne ('Rescue Annie'), whose face was used as the model for the mannequin that almost the whole world learns to do CPR on.
The first single 'Sister Rosetta' is about the blues musician Rosetta Tharpe, who is one of the most influential musicians in American History. Guitar parts from Tharpes releases can be heard in the song, too.
"Their stories are fascinating, moving, funny, and most importantly worth sharing and celebrating", Turner explains in the promotional video to his new album. He even included a song about his mom.

To shed more light on the stories behind the songs, Frank Turner started a podcast series called Tales From No Man's Land, where he talks about the women that inspired his new music. The first episode 'Sister Rosetta' is out now.
