The Clockworks self-titled debut EP will be available to listeners on April 1st, with upcoming single 'Endgame' dropping on March 18th.
Galway post-punk group The Clockworks have announced their debut, self-titled EP will be released on April 1st, via It's Creation Baby. The band also teased a new single, 'Endgame,' which will be available to stream on Friday, March 18th.
'Endgame' — whose grungy instrumentals and biting lyricism loosely draw inspiration from the Samuel Beckett play of the same name — follows the group's breakthrough singles 'Feels so Real' and 'Enough is Never Enough.' Self-effacing and self-aware, the song is a grim exploration into oneself, the bitter realisation of a lost edge.
“The idea for the lyrics was to have this character who’s a bit obnoxious playing a game of pool at the pub, and as the song progresses we get to peel him back and see that the game he’s playing is really against himself," explained frontman James McGregor in a statement.
"The title, apart from relating to the game in the song, is a reference to Beckett’s play Endgame, which we thought touched on the themes/ideas/feelings of the song. I also liked the way that Beckett’s play had a through line of a chess game, like this song has a through line of a game of pool.”
The track is a cut from The Clockworks, which will feature four new tracks: 'Money (I Don't Want to Hear It),' 'Feels So Real,' 'The Temper,' and 'Endgame.' It was recorded at Crouch End Studios, and was produced by Michael Rendall alongside the band and assistant engineer Callum Parker.

From Galway, the band — composed of McGregor, Sean Connelly, Damian Greaney and Tom Freeman — moved to London to find their big break. It was a move that was advantageous, as they got signed to Alan McGee and are about to embark on a world tour that includes three North American support dates for Pixies.
The Clockworks also been slotted for a summer of festival appearances and concert dates, including a May 10th date at Dublin's Grand Social.
