It has bee announced that MGM has made a deal with George Clooney's and Grant Heslov's production company Smokehouse Pictures and that Clooney will direct, and possibly star in, a film about John DeLorean.

Clooney could potentially also star as DeLorean, who designed the iconic but short-lived car that is synonymous with the Back to the Future trilogy. The screenplay, which American dramatist and screenwriter Keith Bunin will tackle, will be adapted from an Epic magazine article about the engineer.

Clooney's previous director credits include The Monuments Men and The Ides of March.

MGM's deal with Smokehouse Pictures also includes a six-part Catch 22 series for Hulu, which is set to premiere on May 17.
