All Greek To Me
Grumpy demigod Kratos returns with a vengeance in this spruced up version of the PS3 hit. Like an angry kid at a birthday party, the Spartan had his face painted and is out to cause trouble. The opening credits set the pace with bombastic orchestral music, before launching into an assault on Olympus. God of War III is chocka with epic battles, environmental puzzles, and uncalled-for levels of gore.
It’s as nuts as the mythology that inspired it. At one point, Kratos takes a short-cut through the internal organs of the Titan Gaia, before pulling the horse head off one of Poseidon’s minions. During fight scenes take on dozens of foes, press buttons in quick-time events, and use enemies as battering rams.
Like Led Zeppelin, the games industry loves re-mastering and re-issuing old stuff, but there isn’t much new here for GoW fans outside a Photo Mode. The Gods would not be pleased.
