GoFundMe launched after Matthew Sweet suffers “debilitating stroke”
The American singer-songwriter suffered a stroke while on tour in Toronto.
A GoFundMe page has been set up after American musician Matthew Sweet suffered a “debilitating stroke” while touring in Toronto earlier this month. The fundraiser aims to help cover the cost of Sweet’s medical bills, which could possibly exceed $250,000.
According to Catherine Lyons of Russell Carter Artist Management, who set up the GoFundMe page, the 60-year-old artist “must now be flown back to the States on an ambulance transport plane with medical staff on board, to a specialized rehabilitation center, where he will receive around-the-clock care and therapy for six weeks.
"He will then require months of treatment and rehabilitation that we hope will lead to a full recovery,”
Sweet's musical career began after he studied at the University of Georgia, where he became immersed in the college town's alternative rock scene. He played in pioneering acts such as Oh-Ok and the Buzz of Delight.
He moved to New York City at the age of 20, where he released his debut solo album, Inside, in 1986.
The artist is best known for hits ‘Sick of Myself’, ‘Girlfriend’, and ‘I’ve Been Waiting’.
