Happy Ever Afters is cunningly timed to coincide with panto season.
An old-school farce painted in such broad strokes it might bring a blush to John Inman’s cheek, Happy Ever Afters is cunningly timed to coincide with panto season. Sally Hawking, sporting an occasionally faltering Dublin brogue, is a single mom marrying new national Wilson (Ariyon Bakare) for money; he wants to stay in Ireland, she wants to pay off her staggering debts. Across town, Tom Riley is marrying up, for the second time to the same ill-suited bride. But when these two crazy wedding parties collide, well, you can probably guess the rest. Shot in Bray and featuring most of our national acting community, what Stephen Burke’s film lacks in sophistication, it makes up for with good cheer.
