Duris and Paradis make for a delightfully tart pairing in this sunny comedy
What could be more summery than a frothy French romp featuring Mrs. Johnny Depp? A frothy French romp featuring Mrs. Johnny Depp and Roman Duris as a PG-rated gigolo, that's what. We should explain. Heartbreakers casts The Beat that My Heart Skipped star as a professional (albeit chaste) breaker-upper hired by a wealthy, dodgy businessman (Jacques Frantz) to prevent his daughter's upcoming marriage.
For a practised charmer like M. Duris, the job ought to be a dawdle, but it turns out that his intended target is marrying Mr. Perfect (Andrew Lincoln) and she's essayed by a surly, unresponsive Vanessa Paradis. As our hero chases his assignment around Monaco's glamour spots, wouldn't you know it, he falls for the girl. Romantic complications ensue.

Happily, this sunny comedy recalls Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and not last year’s abysmal (and inappropriately predatory) Priceless; Duris and Paradis make for a delightfully tart pairing, and while the movie may trade in the same affluent fantasy found in such vile trash as Sex And The City 2, at least the filmmakers have remembered to include a humorous plot.
