She’s been holed up in the Gilded Balloon in Edinburgh for August but Aisling Bea breezes back into Dublin this September with her much talked-about show...
The winner of So You Think You’re Funny 2012, Bea is bringing C’est La Bea And Don’t Swim With Killer Whales to Smock Alley Theatre from September 7 – 10 as part of the Dublin Fringe.
Bea is one of Irish comedy’s emerging stars, with an already impressive TV career under her belt, courtesy of appearances on Russell Howard’s Good News, Sharon Horgan’s most recent sitcom Dead Boss, and The Savage Eye.
The Kildare performer is a whirlwind of fast-paced energy and a vivid and engaging storyteller.
She’s followed each night by the brilliant Foil, Arms & Hog. Their run in Smock Alley is a couple of days longer as they’re performing from September 7 – 13, with a breather on the 11. The trio’s blisteringly funny sketches are a massive hit with audiences.
Tiffany Stevenson, star of The Office and ITV’s Show Me The Funny reality show, is coming to the Laughter Lounge this month. A strong joke-writer with a (usually) amiable stage persona, Stevenson can deliver some withering put-downs. See her in Dublin from September 5 – 7.
The Capital Comedy club in the Ha’penny Bridge Inn boasts a fantastic line-up this fortnight with Cork stand-up Chris Kent headlining on September 4. The winner of the Bulmers Nuttin’ But Funny competition in 2009, Kent is one of Irish comedy’s rising stars. Dermot MacMurrow, of Savage Eye fame, also performs. The following week the Capital Comedy Club plays host to the consistently excellent Niamh Marron, winner of the recent RTÉ New Comedy Awards.
Irish comedy icons The Nualas come to the Civic Theatre in Tallaght on September 6. Upbeat Nuala (Anne Gildea), No-Nonsense Nuala (Sue Collins), and the newest addition, Boston actress Maria Tecce (the third Nuala who’s actually the fifth Nuala), returned to touring at the end of last year.
