Davey Holmes is writing a new series which will depict the life of famed gonzo journalist Hunter S Thompson.
Holmes has written for several TV productions such as In Treatment and Shameless, and was most recently involved in the adaptation of Elmore Leonard's novel, Get Shorty, into a series for Epix.
The show will be produced by MGM Studios and will reportedly be named Fear and Loathing, after Thompson’s two part 1971 article (later a book) about a drug-fueled descent into Las Vegas.
The writer pioneered a new style of journalism known as "gonzo", in which the author was inserted into the story. Along with his Vegas tales, Thompson wrote on other diverse topics including sports, politics and the Hells Angels motorcycle gang.
His work has been adapted for screen several times before, most famously in Terry Gilliam's 1998 adaptation of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, starring Johnny Depp.
