Blade Runner 2049 Made a Loss of $80 Million
The critically acclaimed sequel of the cult classic was a surprising flop at the box office.
Despite having Denis Villeneuve on board as director, alongside stars Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford, Blade Runner 2049 has made a global gross of only $240.6 million- $80 Million less than anticipated.
The 1982 original Ridley Scott film Blade Runner depicts a future in which synthetic humans known as replicants are bioengineered to work on off-world colonies.
Blade Runner 2049 is set thirty years after the original and was released on 6 October 2017.
The sequel's plot focused upon a replicant who is tasked with the mission of preventing a war between humans and replicants.
Sony and Alcon have yet to comment on the dramatic losses made by the film.
Blade Runner 2049 was intended to transform 20 year old Alcon Entertainment by giving it a franchise.
