Emma Donoghue, Paul Howard, and Colm Toibin's books also made the list.
The list of Ireland's best-sellers for 2016 has come in, with wizard hero Harry Potter once again at the top with 69,890 copies sold of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Though the Harry Potter series itself came to a close in 2007 with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the franchise made a comeback in 2016 with the release of the new film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them as well as this new book, which documents the later life of Harry Potter as he raises his son. The book is in the form of a script, for a play that was performed at London's Palace Theater last June.
The top-20 list of bestsellers overwhelming featured Irish authors, with Paul Howard's new book from Ross O'Carroll-Kelly, Game of Throw-Ins at number three, Anne Enright’s The Green Road at number seven, and Louise O’Neill’s Asking For It at number eight. Emma Donoghue and Colm Toibin also made the list with their respective novels Room and Brooklyn, both of which were made into films that received nominations at the Oscars in 2015.
