All types of writers and creatives are welcomed to participate in the event, from beginners to the more experienced.
Ink for Gaza 24, a 24-hour Writeathon fundraiser for Gaza in support of We Are Not Numbers, is set to take place on online on 3 & 4 August, 2024.
During the writing session, participants will be provided with new prompts every hour, sourced from the work of Palestinian culture makers. Writers will also have the opportunity to share and discuss their work before the next prompt is revealed.
Volunteers will be coordinated by author and bookseller Grainne O'Brien, in association with Fiona O'Rourke, founder of Open Mic for Gaza. Writers are encouraged to consider writing something during the Writeathon to perform at an upcoming event O'Rourke will host at the end of August.
We Are We Are Not Numbers (WANN) is a youth-led Palestinian nonprofit project in Gaza, telling the stories behind the numbers of Palestinians in the news. The organisation pairs professional writers from around the world with storytellers in Gaza, helping them share their daily struggles and triumphs.

The idea was conceived in 2014 by American journalist Pam Bailey, and was brought to fruition in early 2015 in collaboration with Dr. Ramy Abdu, chair of the board of directors for the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor (Euro-Med Monitor).
