The intoxicating R.S.A.G. has put Kilkenny well and truly on the music map but there’s plenty more talent besides young Jeremy… The Fundamentals have just released their new single ‘For You To Fall’ which is available for free download through www.myspace.com/thefundamentalsband
The track was recorded by Cormac Moore, one of the founding members of the Camembert Quartet, in Pboy Studios. The supporting tour is in full swing so check out info on remaining dates at www.hotpress.com. They’re also opening for Director in Kytler’s Inn, Kilkenny on July 10 in advance of their own headline show there on August 22…
Hot Press fave Eric Eckhart has been in touch from Berlin where he’s just started recording his new album with Fabien Leseure, partner of Nina Hynes and member of The Husbands. Ex-Frame Dave Hingerty is helping out on drums and another Husband, Peter Cheevers, is on bass duties. The location for all this creative mayhem is Fabien’s studio in old East Berlin. The building used to be an East German radio station and apparently the acoustics are top notch!
Eric reports that the songs run the gamut from roots, blues and folk to all out rockers and some exquisite ‘60s pop. Will keep you posted on further developments…
Wexford’s Issue 72 have just released new EP Caught In A Trap. The band have been through a variety of line-ups since their birth in 2005 and peddle an exciting blend of indie rock with a myriad of influences, including Bulgarian folk music and jazz. Radiator From Space Pete Holidai took care of production duties. The nugget got an official launch at a stunning show in the Bailey in Enniscorthy recently…
Following a roof-raising gig (not literally, but close) in Whelan’s at the end of June Vasco Junior have announced the launch of their next single, ‘Take My Time’ in September. There will be a national tour to co-incide…
Land Lovers release a 6-track EP, Immovable Feet on July 18 and celebrate with a launch that night upstairs in Whelan’s. Two tracks, ‘Paul Treacy Probably Knows’ and ‘Immovable Feet’ are available on www.myspace.com/landlovers. There will be tour dates in support, so check hotpress.com for details…
The past few months have been very interesting for Hogan. Well-known booking agency Audio Networks has just signed the band and following in the footsteps of Wallis Bird and Leanne Harte they’ve landed an endorsement deal with Lakewood Guitars…
Post-punksters Autoban have just re-issued their second single, ‘Sirens/This City’s Fashions’. It features an electro remix of ‘Sirens’ by fellow Dubliners Straglers and is available for a thrifty €3. With supports to Echo And The Bunnymen, The Young Knives, DieDieDie and Blackwire under their collective belt it promises to be an exciting summer for the band…
The Angel Pier release a new single, ‘Align The Seas’ on the Irish independent label Delphi on July 24. The band will be playing a number of shows around Ireland to coincide with the release – including Oxegen (July 11) and Castlepalooza (August 1).
In other Oxegen news a special Inside Track recommendation goes to Villagers who headline the IMRO Stage on July 12. The band just go from strength to strenth and wowed the O2 crowd with a stellar support performace to Neil Young on his recent Irish visit…
