Ireland’s First Ever Stop Motion Feature Film Nearing Release Date
The post production team are putting finishing touches on Captain Morten and The Spider Queen at their Galway based stop motion studio - with big Irish names voicing the entire cast.
This is the first feature length film to be made in Ireland and is a co-production between Telegael (Ireland), Nukufilm (Estonia), Grid VFX (Belgium) and Calon (UK).
Taking three years to make, the voice over cast is comprised of Irish household names such as Brendan Gleeson, Ciarán Hinds, Pauline McLynn, Michael McElhatton, Jason Byrne, Tommy Tiernan and Neil Delamere. It introduces Cian O’Dowd and Susie Power as Morten and his friend Eliza.
Captain Morten and The Spider Queen tells the tale of a young boy who gets shrunk to the size of an insect and has to navigate through a flooded cafe on his toy sailboat. As a black-hearted Spider Queen and Scorpion pirate are already on board, he is forced to become the captain [of both his life and the boat].
Telegael is one of Europe’s leading animation and television studios working with international producers, distributors and broadcasters. The majority of the animation has been produced in Studio Telegael with a crew of more than 30 artists drawn from all over Ireland and further afield.
Sola Media of Germany have been appointed global sales agents for the film, which will have a 2018 release.
