Misfits and The Umbrella Academy star Robert Sheehan has announced that he will be releasing a memoir titled Playing Dead.
World rights to the 36-year-old’s debut memoir were acquired by Ebury Self Hub.
The memoir will be published by Rider, a publishing imprint of Ebury Publishing, a division of parent company Penguin Random House.
Playing Dead will be published in hardback, e-book and audiobook on September 5 2024. It is available for pre-order now.
This isn't Sheehan's first foray into the world of publishing, having released a short story collection titled Disappearing Act in 2021.

In Playing Dead, Sheehan, who is best known for playing Klaus Hargreeves in Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy and as Nathan Young in the Channel 4 series Misfits, delivers “intimate and playful reflections on his search for purpose, looking back at the adventures – and misadventures – of his life so far”.
The memoir combines storytelling with letters, poetry, childhood memories and thoughtful musings on fame and Sheehan’s experience with meditation.
Sheehan said: “I hope Playing Dead carries enough in it to encourage readers to sit down and watch, permit or encounter themselves for unusual amounts of time. And even if it doesn’t, it’s intended to be heartfelt and a good laugh all the same.”
Editor Anna Hayes said: “In an increasingly noisy and distracting world, we’re all searching for solace. Sheehan’s memoir is beautifully written and unmistakably him, a no-holds-barred glimpse into his inner world. Playing Dead speaks to those of us who feel we’re too busy, too fidgety, too ’thinky’ to be able to meditate, and shows us how a formal meditation practice can truly transform our lives and happiness. We are delighted to be publishing this brilliant book."
