We take at a look at the collectives in Ireland reinventing the nightlife scene.
Three years ago, Shankill lad Niall Quinlan had a simple dream: “Filling a gap in the Dublin scene with events focused on all things disco.” Since setting out on this honourable mission, Quinlan’s Love Shack collective have gained a reputation for presenting high quality, feel-good music. Playing host to some incredible international talent since their formation – including a District 8 show with Australian disco edit master Late Nite Tuff Guy in 2017 – Love Shack have also been keen to support up-and-coming Dublin acts, in the intimate setting of the basement of Wigwam.
More recently, however, the South Dublin collective have been focusing their efforts in their immediate area, presenting hugely popular shows in Bodytonic’s new venue, The Lighthouse in Dun Laoghaire. The events have added some welcome energy to the area, which has long lacked a venue catering for the local student population from Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology.
Teaming up with Colours, another local collective, Love Shack will present Irish disco favourites Mix & Fairbanks at The Lighthouse on Saturday, February 16. There will also be an upcoming gig with London-based Frenchman The Reflex – a huge presence on the international disco scene – with details to follow soon.
