Dublin Airport, CMAT, Emma Langford and the National Leprechaun Museum of Ireland are among those who have reacted to the trailer for the upcoming film.
Wild Mountain Thyme, an upcoming romantic comedy starring Emily Blunt, Jamie Dornan, Jon Hamm and Christopher Walken, has sparked a major reaction on Twitter following the release of its trailer last night – though probably not for the reasons the filmmakers intended.
Rather, Irish Twitter users have expressed a mixture of confusion, horror and disbelief over the 'Irish' accents featured in the trailer – which reach levels not previously witnessed since Darby O'Gill and the Little People, Far and Away, P.S. I Love You, and Leap Year.
To make matters worse, Co. Down man Jamie Dornan is among the worst culprits.
Wild Mountain Thyme, written and directed by John Patrick Shanley, and based on his play Outside Mullingar, began filming in Crossmolina, Co. Mayo in September 2019, and is set to be released next month.
"There's fashion police," the official Dublin Airport Twitter account posted last night. "Grammar police. We even have airport police. Is there such a thing as accent police? If so, somebody better call 'em."

Emma Langford pointed out that "we actually have loads of really good actually Irish actors... Who wouldn't be doing a shit accent".

After asking why "not a single member of the production team had Jessie Buckley's number", CMAT admitted that she's "still going to watch it."
"My favourite genre of film is 'American-made romantic comedy set in Ireland except nobody can speak in an Irish accent and I can't tell whether the events take place in 2010 or 1950," she added.
Even the Embassy of Ireland team in the US chimed in: "To be fair, Irish accents are hard (we struggle with them at times). But otherwise #WildMountainThyme looks great. And, in Jamie Dornan & Emily Blunt, presents a remarkably realistic depiction, visually at least, of the average Irish man & woman. Truly, we are a beautiful people."
