Fia Moon talks to Hot Press about being a woman in the Irish industry.
Fia Moon's modern R&B-tinged soul tunes have swept across Ireland in the last few years, breathing new life into the community. Her most recent single 'better days', released in April, has already garnered over 100, 000 plays on Spotify alone.
With the 'Dreams' cover reaching over 170, 000 views on YouTube inside the first week of its release, Fia's excitement for the future has only grown. "I was so honoured and humbled to have been asked to join such a strong, powerful force of women who I have always admired," she says. "I have chills every time I watch the video and I cannot wait for the world to see how beautiful it is when we come together. I'm very proud.
"With everything going on, it couldn't be a scarier time for women in abusive environments. It's really important that we protect the most vulnerable in society, especially during a pandemic. With lockdown and the restrictions it means it's even more challenging to raise funds. I hope in doing this we can increase awareness of this cause during lockdown and beyond."
Fia should be proud – Dolores O'Riordan most certainly would be. "Without me even realising it," recalls the young Dublin-born artist, "I grew up listening to her voice. Her tone is something that's so instantly recognisable and unique. I love her emotional lyrics and honest songwriting and feel there is so much strength in her vulnerability. There are so many world class musicians to come from Ireland and she is one of the greats."
So what does she hope this single will accomplish? "I really hope people will realise that all we can do is support each other. When women come together in this way, especially those in need it's very powerful. I hope in doing this, we can highlight and change the response to domestic violence for women and children in this country."
