"Safe Ireland’s plight to transform the response to domestic violence, an often hidden crime, is essential, especially during these difficult times."
"The fact that we could all come together and create a beautiful tribute during this pandemic makes me proud to be a woman in the Irish music industry," says Melina Malone. The Dublin-based neo-soul artist, like every woman who sang on the 'Dreams' track, jumped at the chance to be featured alongside her peers and contemporaries.
"I hope this allows people to see the diversity of the Irish Music Industry. There are so many incredible female artists here right now that are paving the way for a new and more inclusive Éire with their own individual styles and stories. I hope this inspires Irish media to re-evaluate what they can do to elevate voices that may not be represented right now in Irish music."
As an emerging artist, Malone looks to veterans like Dolores O'Riordan, who have paved a much easier path for artists like herself. "Dolores is a truly iconic figure in Irish music history, and has become an inspiration for so many young women in Ireland to pursue a career in music. Personally, I admire her boldness and determination to be so unique in a time in Ireland where it would not be the norm for a woman to do so. She was such a strong passionate woman that had something to say with her music."
Another reason Malone was eager to participate was the sheer importance of supporting an organisation like Safe Ireland.
"This pandemic is such a challenging time for all of us as we are urged to stay at home," Malone says. "I can’t even begin to fathom the impact it is having on families across the country, especially those who are fearful of their safety in that place they call home. Safe Ireland’s plight to transform the response to domestic violence, an often hidden crime, is essential, especially during these difficult times. Public awareness is one of the primary ways that Safe Ireland is striving to end domestic violence, so I think it is so important right now more than ever to continue to raise awareness on this issue."
