The 'Trainspotting' author is to co-write a TV show about the birth of acid house and the rave scene, which will be entitled 'Ibiza87'.
The new TV show will be loosely based on British DJs Danny Rampling, Paul Oakenfold, Johnny Walker and Nicky Holloway. It will chart the story of their holiday to Ibiza in 1987 and how they went on to spearhead the acid house and rave scene back home in the UK.
Announcing the new TV series, a press release builds up expectations by hyping the show up as the "missing link between 24 Hour Party People and Straight Outta Compton".
It adds, "Ibiza87 chronicles the rollercoaster highs and lows, the drug-fuelled excess and the untold riches through to the rivalries, violence and arrests of an incredible period in British music culture."
It will be co-written by award-winning screenwriter, Dean Cavanagh. "I’m very excited about this project. As you know, it ties in with the 30-year anniversary of our trip to Ibiza and what followed thereafter; the birth of the dance music club and festival scene as we know it today," Cavanagh said.
"It’s great to celebrate with this project as well as my world tour this year which is about just that, three generations of dance music.”
