M. Night Shymalan, the writer and director of the horror thriller Split, hinted that he is already working on a follow-up for the movie.
The American horror hit about a man with a dissociative personality disorder, starring James McAvoy, Anya Taylor-Joy and Betty Buckley was a huge box office hit since it opened in the cinemas in January. Only in the first weeks it grossed over $140 million at the global box office, while being produced with a budget of only $9 million.
Shymalan, who was previously known for movies like The Sixth Sense, Signs or The Visit, now hints that he is already working on his next project. And it seems not too unlikely that this project could be a Split sequel.
“I have an 11 page outline for my next film in my bag. I can’t tell you what it is, but If you’ve seen #Spit…” Shymalan tweeted this weekend, teasing the Split< fans.

Details for either the possible storyline or more certain production plans for a new movie are not available yet, but it’s said that the film maker wants his next film to be part of a series of connected tales, not exactly a franchise.
Previously, Shymalan revealed that Split is meant to be a sequel to his 2000 superhero thriller Unbreakable, which apparently takes place in the same cinematic universe. Bruce Willis, the star of Unbreakable, even cameos in Split, hinting the connection of both movies.
Split sees James McAvoy as a man with distinct 23 personalities kidnapping three teenage girls, who have to escape before another frightful 24th personality can appear. The film was produced Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions and Blinding Edge Pictures.
