After the DC anti-hero movie Suicide Squad failed to truly win over the audience’s hearts, director David Ayer now admits he probably made some mistakes.
It was no secret that fans had high expectations of Suicide Squad before it hit the cinemas in August last year. And it appeared those couldn’t quite be fulfilled by the actual movie. One weakness of the film could have been the disappointingly minor role of Jared Leto’s Joker.
When the comic book adaption finally came to the cinemas it was a huge box office success, but at the same time earned largely negative critics. Ayer first defended Suicide Squad, saying “I love the movie and believe in it.”
Zapata quote is my way of saying I love the movie and believe in it. Made it for the fans. Best experience of my life. ❤️

As some time passed, he comes to admit that there were some mistakes made.

Answering a fan on Twitter he revealed that he wished he “had a time machine” so he could “make the Joker the main villain and engineer a more grounded story.” He also wants to “give the characters the stories and plots they deserved.”

After it has recently been announced that David Ayer will lead the production of the Harley Quinn spin-off Gotham City Sirens featuring more female villains from the DC universe, it is also said that Ayer is still set to be the director in the Suicide Squad sequel. So most likely there can more Jared Leto to be expected in the follow-up movie.
The 30 Seconds To Mars singer also recently hinted that he could return as the Joker. Posting Joker-pictures on his social media accounts, it can be assumed that he is preparing to reprise his role, but this still has to be confirmed yet.
