James Cameron’s classic film is getting the 3D treatment.
The 29th of August, 1997 is an important date in the Terminator timeline–the day Skynet became self aware. To commemorate this day in real life, the 3D conversion of the film was officially announced. The original movie was a watershed moment for special effects in cinema. While advancements in technology have improved what movies are capable of, Terminator 2 still holds up remarkably well. Always the inventor, James Cameron pushes the limits of effects driven cinema to tell the story he wants to tell. The way the camera lingers on the T-1000, you can’t help but admire what has been crafted.
With the return to cinema, the question become whether or not the visuals hold up on the big screen. Then, there’s the added question of the 3D conversion. The most successful 3D films have the benefit of being shot that way, where less successful attempts were shot in 2D and then converted later. Notably, there have been older films that have been successfully converted, including James Cameron’s own Titanic. We expect that Terminator 2’s return to the theatre will be well received.
