Don't Breathe director Fede Alvarez will be at the helm of the new sequel.
Horror fans will be glad to hear that director Fede Alvarez, of the horror hit Don't Breathe will be directing the newest film of the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo franchise. The original 2011 film was directed by David Fincher and starred Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig. With Alvarez behind the camera for this new film, there will be a whole new cast, with a brand-new Lisbeth Salander. It's not clear who that will be yet, but Alvarez is currently meeting with actresses, including Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson. Johansson was initially up for the role in the first film before it eventually went to Mara.
Alvarez told Variety, “I’m hugely excited and grateful for this opportunity. Sony has become family to me and I can’t think of a more thrilling project to celebrate our relationship. Lisbeth Salander is the kind of character any director dreams of bringing to life. We’ve got a great script and now comes the most fun part — finding our Lisbeth.”
