Colin Farrell and Barry Keoghan star in the new film, which was given a standing ovation that lasted for ten minutes at its Cannes screening.
The latest thriller from director Yorgos Lanthimos, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, made its premiere at the 70th Cannes Film Festival to outstanding acclaim. With a standing ovation that lasted ten minutes, and rave reviews from publications such as The Hollywood Reporter, the new sinister thriller has been called “unmissable”. With standout performances from Hollywood veterans Colin Farrell and Nicole Kidman, as well as a career-making performance from rising Irish talent Barry Keoghan, the new thriller promises to be one of the most anticipated movies of this coming autumn, when it is expected to have an October or November release.
The film focuses on a surgeon named Steven, played by Farrell, who has taken a young boy (Keoghan) under his wing. As the boy’s sinister motives become clear, Steven’s family is in danger, and he is pushed to make an impossible choice. Produced by Element Pictures, who have been on a roll with such recent successes as The Lobster, Room, and A Date For Mad Mary, the film was shot last year in Cincinnati, Ohio.
