The Rose d'Or, Europe's most prestigious awards ceremony in entertainment programming, has recognised RTE Two/BBC Three co-production The Young Offenders.

The series focusing on the exploits of Cork teenagers Conor MacSweeney (Alex Murphy) and Jock O'Keeffe (Chris Walley) will compete in the sitcom category against UK series The Detectorists and The Windsors as well as German show Magda macht das schon!.

Meanwhile, the Cillian Murphy led Peaky Blinders is up for Best Drama Series, facing competition from The Handmaid's Tale, The Crown and Babylon Berlin.

The Young Offenders is based on the IFTA-winning 2016 film of the same time, written and directed by Peter Foott.

Foott is showrunner of the series which has been renewed for a second series.
