Whether you asked for it or not, James Cameron is working on a whopping four sequels.
The famous director brought us the two best Terminator movies and Aliens, a sequel that couldn’t be more different from its parent. Perhaps most famously, he directed Titanic and Avatar, both chock full of ham fisted clichés, but have nonetheless endeared themselves to audiences and critics alike.
Cameron’s films are notable for their pioneering film techniques, such as the underwater cinematography of The Abyss and Titanic, and the remarkable visual effects of Avatar, which looks like a science fiction art book in film form. More infamous are the delays between his last two films and now. With Titanic released in 1997 and Avatar in 2009, there was a huge gap between the two films, both of which were the highest grossing films in history at the time of their respective releases.
With an announcement from earlier this year, James Cameron looks to be trying to avoid the long delays between films by producing them simultaneously. The plan at this point is to release films in 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2023. The latest news about these films comes from a quote in a Variety interview.

“The storyline in the sequels really follows Jake and Neytiri and their children. It’s more of a family saga about the struggle with the humans.”
Regardless of your thoughts on Avatar, these new movies are sure to be big hits.
