The popularity of the Carpool Karaoke segment is such that Apple Music want it all for their lonesome.
With some of the world's most famous faces ranging from icon Stevie Wonder to pop dream boats One Direction and the First Lady Michelle Obama, everyone wants dibs on James Corden's passenger seat.
A licensing deal has been reached between Apple Music and CBS (home to The Late Late Show) whereby Apple Music will now host a 16-episode series based on the Carpool Karaoke hit. Each week, a new episode will be available to stream for Apple Music subscribers.
The skit which initially came from humble beginnings has become one of the most viral-trending videos that is out there. It's the biggest hit to emerge from Corden's Late Late Show with each video soaring through the millions on YouTube. Adele's appearance alone garnered over 119 million views.
“I genuinely couldn’t tell you how many people watch our show, because I feel like in this slot, we’re not really in the ratings business, we’re just in the relevance business. My major ambition is just to stay relevant. That’s it, to be in the conversation – that’s all that was ever asked of us really,” Corden admitted.
According to Deadline, the series will alter slightly to give it a bit of umph. The passengers will still boast major celebrity force but now they will visit places of significance to them and may surprise some major fans of the way. And...apparently Corden won't be hosting the series, not sure how that will pan out. The funny man will be billed as creator and will produce the series alongside the Late Late Show producer Ben Winston.
No air date has been announced yet so until then Carpool Karaoke will remain as a sketch. Now, to wreck our brains as to who we want to see on Carpool Karaoke next...
