Jeff Beck and Johnny Depp have announced their first album together, and shared the second taste since 2020's cover of John Lennon's 'Isolation.'
Guitarist Jeff Beck and actor/Hollywood Vampires co-founder Johnny Depp have announced a new album, 18, to be released on July 15. To celebrate the announcement, they have shared a cut of the project, a Depp original song called 'This is a Song for Miss Hedy Lamarr.'
The 13 track LP is set to include covers that touch on Motown, The Beach Boys, John Lennon, The Velvet Underground and more, as well as two original compositions by Depp.
Meeting in 2016, Beck and Depp bonded over a mutual love of music, leading the guitarist to suggest a collaborative album. Starting in 2019, the process took around three years, recording a wide range of covers, as well as original content. They dropped the first preview of the project in 2020, with a version of John Lennon's 'Isolation.'
“When Johnny and I started playing together, it really ignited our youthful spirit and creativity. We would joke about how we felt 18 again, so that just became the album title too," said Beck. “I haven’t had another creative partner like him for ages. He was a major force on this record. I just hope people will take him seriously as a musician because it’s a hard thing for some people to accept that Johnny Depp can sing rock and roll."
Depp agreed, stating: "It’s an extraordinary honor to play and write music with Jeff, one of the true greats and someone I am now privileged enough to call my brother."

Jeff Beck rose to prominance as the lead guitarist for English rock band The Yardbirds. Since, he has fronted The Jeff Beck Group and Jeff, Bogart & Appice. He is currently on a European tour with Depp as a special guest, concluding on July 25 in Paris.
As for Depp, in addition to his acting career, he's been recording and touring with supergroup the Hollywood Vampires, an outfit started with Alice Cooper and Joe Perry. They have released two studio albums, with features from the likes of Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl, and Joe Walsh. The album announcement comes less than two weeks after the final verdict of the highly publicised Depp v. Heard trial, which awarded Depp $15 million in damages relating to a 2018 op-ed in which Heard identified herself as a victim of domestic abuse.
