Acting superstar and cultural icon, Jeff Goldblum is set to perform a live jazz gig in London on November 17.
While you may know Goldblum from his classic roles in Jurassic Park, Independence Day and, more recently, Thor: Ragnarok, you may not know that he is also a dedicated jazz pianist. Goldblum has been playing piano since he was a child and has played in clubs and bars since he was 15. He has been performing with, his band, The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra since the ‘90s, mostly in LA and New York. He hosts a weekly jazz variety show at Rockwell Table and Stage in LA when not away on location. The concert comes as Goldblum is gearing up for his first album release with The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra.
The album comes as a result of his performance with Gregory Porter on the Graham Norton show last October while promoting Thor: Ragnarok. After seeing the performance, executives from Decca Records flew out to LA to discuss recording an album with Goldblum.
In a statement, Decca Director of Artists and Repertoire Tom Lewis said, “As far as I can tell, everyone loves Jeff Goldblum. He’s a fantastic jazz pianist, a great band leader and just about the loveliest man in the world. His love of jazz is infectious and whenever he plays he makes you feel very happy. If we can take Jeff’s music into people’s homes then we will be helping, in our own small way, to make the world a happier place.”
Goldblum said about Decca “I’m so happy to be in cahoots with the wonderful people at Decca, one of the coolest and most prestigious labels of all time.”
