Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them are among the prolific author's big screen résumé.
Written under the pen name Robert Galbraith, The Cuckoo's Calling (2013) crime novel surprised J.K Rowling fans who only knew her as a fantasy goddess. Now, that book is being adapted into a television drama.
The book is a part of her Strike series and follows the life of private investigator, Cormoran Strike, who lost his leg during the Afghan war. In the first detective book, Strike investigates a supermodel's (known as Cuckoo) suicide. The Guardian reflects on the author's first stab at a genre far away from the Hogwarts world, "For the moment, we are left with an enjoyable, highly professional crime novel that has escaped from the aim its author had for it but taken on a massive new significance for readers."
The Cuckoo's Calling, produced by J.K Rowling, will feature as three hour-long episodes on BBC1, along with two hour-long episodes for each of the next detective books The Silkworm and Career of Evil
