An account of soul singer Emeli Sandé’s early years, Read All About It is more romanticised whimsy than hard-edged reporting. John Dingwall is an entertainment journalist by trade and has put put together a comprehensive and detailed account of Sandé’s rise to fame. If you’re a fan, this is an easy-to-read biog of your favourite popstar. We read about her childhood in a remote Scottish village, how she fell in love with soul music as a child, and her struggles squaring her recording ambitions with her desire to qualify as a doctor. There are also some fascinating passages charting Sandé’s experiences as a young artist in London and early work with producer Naughty Boy. Still, the book lacks depth or context. In the end, there’s nota lot to glean from its rose-tinted pages.
