Acclaimed folk musician John Francis Flynn is slated to perform at the Feakle Folk Club this Friday (September 24).

The multi-instrumentalist will be the second artist to play at the newly-revived club in Pepper’s bar in Feakle, east Clare. Singer-songwriter Ger Wolfe was the first musician to play the four-part series last Wednesday (September 15).

Pauline Scanlon, Nicola Joyce and Noriana Kennedy will follow Flynn on October 8th as Barry Kerr and Síle Denvir perform for the final instalment in the series on October 22nd.

“John Francis Flynn is a singer and flute player who reaches far down into the tradition for his songs and then dresses them up in surprising and beautiful ways. If you like a bit of edge to your folk music, John Francis Flynn is your man,” said the Feakle Folk Club about the singer.

The folk artist was touring with Lankum in 2019 when he was signed to River Lea, the imprint label of Rough Trade. The Dublin man released his debut album I Would Not Live Always in 2021 which included his acclaimed rendition of the song ‘My Son Tim’ and “highlighted the enormous talent hidden away in the corners of Ireland’s folk scene.”

In her review of Flynn's album, Hot Press' Kate Brayden said:

"John Francis Flynn slots easily into a coterie of Irish musicians rewriting the traditional music script. At times otherworldly and poignant, often hauntingly gripping but always spine-tingling; I Would Not Live Always could fool any listener into assuming the lyrics and poems are original to Flynn himself."

The Skipper’s Alley member will kick off his performance at 8pm with tickets available via eventbrite for €16.50. Attendees will be required to show their Covid vaccination cert in order to gain entry as per government guidelines.
