Kae Tempest's newest single 'I Saw Light' comes before their April 8th LP release, The Line is a Curve.
Kae Tempest has joined forces with Fontaines D.C. frontman Grian Chatten for a poetic new single, 'I Saw Light.'
The release comes before Tempest's upcoming album The Line is a Curve, which has already seen three songs; 'No Prizes' with Lianne La Havas, 'Salt Coast' and 'More Pressure' featuring Kevin Abstract. The full LP comes on Friday, April 8th.
The single comes alongside a music video, which shows Tempest as they wander through the streets, bathed in afternoon light. Simple and paired back, the steady electronic beat in the background sets their pace — alternating between sideways close-ups and shaky footage. Directed by Wolfgang Tillmans, the visual matches the soft, yet impactful feeling the song projects.
With quiet backing instrumentals, the track allows for the lyrics to rise above. Like most of Tempest's works, thats where the real magic lies — blurring the lines between poetry and music to create something uniquely their own. Paired with the deeper, rhythmic voice of Chatten, 'I Saw Light' feels like a give-and-take between two equally introspective minds.

"Some live it all out in lust of a stage, but you were busy trying to trap a heart on a page," the frontman declares.
