Following the release of Heaven and Earth in July, Kamasi Washington has announced a date at Dublin's Olympia Theatre.
When the tenor saxophonist released his tour de force The Epic in 2015 it earned him critical acclaim and the recognition he has long deserved. The album won a number of “best of” awards, including the inaugural American Music Prize and the Gilles Peterson Worldwide album of the year.
Since then, Kamasi Washington has firmly established himself as the frontman of Jazz's musical revival, and in the process introduced a whole new generation to music they had never heard before. A trailblazer of progressive sounds that defy borders and limitations, Kamasi has collaborated with a host of other influential artists such as Kendrick Lamar, John Legend, Run the Jewels and Ibeyi, in addition to his work with his 10 piece band - The Next Step.
His sophomore album, Heaven and Earth received similar acclaim, earning him a five-star review in The Irish Times.
Now, the LA saxophone player has announced a date next year at Dublin's Olympia Theatre on the 3rd March 2019, and if his performances at massive festivals such as Coachella, Glastonbury, Fuji Rock, Bonnaroo and Primavera are anything to go by, Irish audiences are in for a real treat.
