Kendrick Lamar and his co-founder Dave Free have announced the release of a new phone with their company pgLang in collaboration with Light – the pair hope to reduce phone dependency by releasing "just a phone".
Hip-hop artist Kendrick Lamar will release a limited edition phone through his company pgLang, which he co-owns with Dave Free.
The phone is going to be launched in partnership with the technology company, Light and is set to release on November 2.
The company dropped a new teaser for the launch online on October 30. In the short clip, the new design lacks modern features such as a web browser or colour interface.
It is marketed to be "just a phone" in hopes of being a less distracting and tech-heavy alternative to other modern designs. The design aims to reduce phone dependency. The Light brand describes its ethos as “an alternative to the tech monopolies that are fighting more and more aggressively for our time and attention”.

The company launched a Kickstarter campaign for the Light Phone in 2015 and has since released other devices – which some referred to as "dumb phones" due to their lack of features compared to traditional smartphones.
The brand's new limited-edition launch follows the Light Phone II, which is more reliable and practical than the original.
In regards to Lamar and Free's company pgLang, the pair first developed the company back in 2020 – describing it as a “multi-lingual, at-service company”.
Earlier this month, the brand worked with Converse for Driven By Luck. The collaboration featured a new Chuck 70 trainer and included visuals with artists like Dominic Fike and Baby Keem.
