Kendrick Lamar will be the guest and subject of The Big Hit Show's second season, focusing on his Grammy-winning third album 'To Pimp A Butterfly'.
Podcast The Big Hit Show will shift its focus to Kendrick Lamar's Grammy winning 2015 album, To Pimp a Butterfly. Hosted by journalist Alex Pappademas, each of the podcast's series centres on a different "wildly successful piece of pop culture so big it changes the world." Produced by Michelle and Barack Obama's company Higher Ground, it will launch tomorrow, February 16, on Spotify. The five-part docuseries will feature Lamar and several special guests analysing the impact of the critically acclaimed work, including appearances from George Clinton and Raspody - who were collaborators on the project. "When your breakthrough album convinces everyone you're the best rapper alive, what do you do next?" Pappademas can be heard asking in the podcast's trailer. "If you're Kendrick Lamar, you make To Pimp a Butterfly." The teaser also touches on how the rapper dealt with the "sophomore jinx," the pressures of success and how his song 'Alright' became an anthem for the Black Lives Matter movement. “Going back into the album, it was me explaining my experiences and what emotions it brought up. It was about telling them, ‘Yo, it’s something bigger than Compton and where we from,'” Lamar can be heard saying. The recipient of 13 Grammy Awards, an Academy Award nomination and the first-ever Pulitzer Prize for a non-jazz or non-classical album, Kendrick has been lauded as the most significant hip hop artist of our time. Albums DAMN., good kid, m.A.A.d city and To Pimp A Butterfly are included on Rolling Stone's 500 greatest albums of all time, and he's been named as one of Time's 100 most influential people in the world. This will be The Big Hit Show's second chapter, its previous focus the Twilight film franchise. The release comes after Lamar played the Super Bowl halftime show Sunday night, alongside Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem and Mary J. Blige.
